Avflight Mesa, in a strategic partnership with Avfuel Corporation, has officially launched the availability of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at its location at Falcon Field in Arizona. The first shipment of SAF arrived on August 28, marking a significant milestone for both Avflight and Avfuel. This development makes Avflight Mesa the pioneering location among Avflight’s 26 global sites to offer this eco-friendly fuel option.
The introduction of SAF at Avflight Mesa also represents Avfuel’s 30th location to provide a consistent supply of SAF. Additionally, it is the second location in Arizona to begin offering this sustainable fuel option this summer. This expansion underscores Avfuel’s ongoing commitment to supporting the aviation industry’s shift toward more environmentally responsible practices.
Aaron Mauer, the senior regional manager for Avflight, expressed his enthusiasm for the new offering. “We are incredibly excited to introduce SAF at our Mesa location,” Mauer stated. “Including SAF in our fuel lineup is a major step forward in our sustainability initiatives. It allows our customers to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while working towards their own environmental goals.”
The SAF being used at Avflight Mesa is produced by Neste, a leading producer of sustainable fuel, at its facility in Long Beach, California. This fuel is branded as Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ and boasts one of the highest blend ratios available in the business aviation sector.
It features a 30% SAF and 70% petroleum-based jet fuel mixture. This high blend ratio ensures a significant reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional jet fuel.
Avfuel, headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has been a critical supplier for Avflight Mesa since acquiring the fixed-base operator (FBO) in 2020. The company’s decision to provide SAF at Falcon Field aligns with its broader sustainability goals and demonstrates its commitment to reducing the aviation industry’s carbon footprint.
Falcon Field’s airport director, Corinne Nystrom, welcomed the new fuel offering. “We are thrilled that Avflight has chosen Mesa as a launch point for a more sustainable future,” Nystrom said. “This move complements Mesa’s Climate Action Plan, which focuses on protecting our environment and natural resources. As Falcon Field grows, SAF will support increased airfield operations while reducing overall emissions.”
The addition of SAF at Avflight Mesa highlights the airport’s dedication to advancing green aviation practices. It reflects a broader trend within the aviation industry toward adopting more sustainable solutions to address environmental concerns. By providing SAF, Avflight Mesa is enhancing its sustainability efforts and offering its customers a practical way to contribute to global emission reduction goals.
Avflight Mesa’s new SAF offering represents a significant step forward in the aviation sector’s transition to more sustainable practices. It is a testament to Avflight’s and Avfuel’s growing commitment to promoting environmental stewardship and reducing air travel’s carbon footprint.
