Aviation Industry Aims for Net Zero Carbon with Green Tech

  • Philippine Airline, Cebu Pacific’s Alex Reyes outlines net zero carbon strategy at Aviation Festival Asia.
  • Key levers: aircraft tech, operations, market measures, and sustainable fuel (SAF).

During the Aviation Festival Asia (AFA) in Singapore, Cebu Pacific’s Alex Reyes outlined a strategy for achieving net zero carbon emissions in aviation. Reyes highlighted four key levers: aircraft tech, operations, market measures, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

He stressed the urgency of climate action due to extreme weather risks. Cebu Pacific is actively modernising its fleet for fuel efficiency and exploring electric aircraft. Collaboration with industry leaders is vital for advancing green tech.

Expanding the SAF supply network and implementing supportive government policies are crucial. There is a need for mindset change among older passengers.

Representatives from Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and Lufthansa Group emphasised SAF’s importance. Collaboration among stakeholders is crucial for progress.

Making carbon offsetting accessible to passengers is essential, especially in Western markets. Biofuels show promise but require assurance of safety and affordability.

Despite challenges, there’s optimism about the potential of green tech in aviation.
