Aviva, Astatine Launch €800m Energy Transition Platform in Ireland

  • Aviva Investors and Astatine launched an €800m energy transition platform to fund and deliver renewable energy projects across Ireland and Europe.
  • The platform targets decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors like power, heat, and transport, starting with 128 MW of assets and a 500 MW project pipeline.

Aviva Investors, the global asset management arm of Aviva plc, has partnered with Irish energy infrastructure specialist Astatine to launch an €800 million industrial energy transition platform to fund and deliver renewable energy projects in Ireland and across Europe.

The new platform will target emissions reduction in Europe’s most energy-intensive and hard-to-abate sectors, focusing on power, heat, and transport projects. It will support early-stage development, full asset delivery, and long-term operation across critical areas such as data centres, food and beverage, cement, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and manufacturing.

Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Dublin, Astatine specialises in decarbonisation, renewable energy, and engineering solutions for industrial power, heat, and transport applications.

Under the partnership, Aviva Investors will act as the majority shareholder, providing financial backing and driving the platform’s expansion. Astatine will oversee project development, design, delivery, and ongoing operations and maintenance.

Furthermore, the platform launches with a seed portfolio of 128 MW of assets expected to become operational within two years, alongside a pipeline of 500 MW in development.

“Industrial energy users are under increasing pressure to reduce costs while meeting climate and energy security targets,” said Tom Marren, CEO and co-founder of Astatine. “By combining Aviva Investors’ financial strength with our development expertise, we can accelerate projects that enhance the competitiveness of Europe’s industrial base. While the platform has a European scope, we also see a strong pipeline of eligible projects across Ireland, particularly in key growth sectors.”

Angelika Kunne, Head of Infrastructure Equity at Aviva Investors, described the initiative as “a truly innovative way to provide large energy users in hard-to-abate industries with a dedicated partner offering access to diverse decarbonisation technologies.”

She added, “These energy solutions are cost-effective, resilient against price volatility in traditional energy sources, and crucial for helping entire sectors manage their transition toward a low-carbon future while improving competitiveness.”
