Axian plans to double its 20MW solar park in Madagascar.
- The expanded plant will feature a 5MWh energy storage system.
- The expansion is expected to be complete later this year.
Axian Group has announced that it intends to double the size of its 20 MWp Ambatolampy solar park in Madagascar. The Antananarivo-based company says that it will begin constructing a €17 million project to double the facility. The work is expected to be completed this year.
Axian and Malagasy electricity and water utility Jiro sy rano Malagasy (Jirama) also add that the expansion will include a 5 MWh energy storage system.
According to Axian, the project’s initial finance partners have committed to support the expansion project. Finance partners who backed the initial 20 MWp project have committed to supporting the solar plant’s expansion. The returning investors include Société Générale, Private Infrastructure Development Group, alongside the governments of the U.K., the Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, Sweden, and Germany; and the African Development Bank‘s African Guarantee Fund. Domestic Malagasy financers include Banque de Madagascar et de l’Ocean Indien and BNI Madagascar.
