Azura Pushes for Contract Sanctity

  • The Managing Director of Azura Power, Engr Edu Okeke, has called for the sanctity of contracts in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.
  • Azura’s long-term vision is to engage in power generation projects that will add to approximately 20 per cent of Nigeria’s projected capacity.

The Managing Director of Azura Power, Engr Edu Okeke, called for the sanctity of contracts signed in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, NESI at the 2022 Power Correspondents Association of Nigeria, PCAN, workshop in Abuja. He said respect for contracts would attract more investment to the power sector.

Engr Edu further explained that the long-term vision of the 461MW Azura-Edo Independent Power Plant (IPP) owners is to move output to 3,500MW. He added that Azura had completed 461 megawatts of Edo Independent Power Plant IPP, an open cycle gas turbine power station, a phase of a 1,500MW power plant facility near Benin City.

He said, “Azura’s long-term vision is to engage in power generation projects that will add over 3 500 megawatts of power, equal to approximately 20 per cent of Nigeria’s projected capacity”. The project was completed 28 months ahead of schedule, and since commissioning, it has contributed to over 8%  of power sent to the National Grid. Also, at the just completed Power Sector Performance Award, Azura Power was named the 2022 best generation company thermal.
