B.C. Jindal Secures 150 MW Renewable PPA in India

  • B.C. Jindal Group signed a PPA with SECI for a 150 MW round-the-clock renewable energy project, integrating solar, wind, and battery storage systems.
  • The Group has secured 750 MW of renewable projects since FY25, reinforcing its commitment to India’s 500 GW renewable energy target by 2030.

B.C. Jindal Group, a leading Indian conglomerate with a turnover exceeding Rs 18,000 crore, signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 150 MW round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy project. Furthermore, this project forms part of SECI’s 1,200 MW RTC renewable energy initiative, tendered in November last year. Consequently, B.C. Jindal Group strengthens its position as a key player in India’s renewable energy sector.

Under the agreement, the company will develop an ISTS-connected project combining solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). In addition, B.C. Jindal Group will acquire land, oversee installation, and connect the project to the ISTS network. This ensures a reliable power supply to DISCOMs tied to the PPA. Moreover, the company plans to commission the project within 24 months, subject to the availability of the substation. The 150 MW capacity was achieved through competitive bidding at a tariff of Rs 5.07 per kWh.

The CEO of Jindal India Renewable Energy stated that, since entering the sector in FY25, the company has secured 750 MW of renewable projects. These projects represent an investment of more than Rs 8,000 crore. He added that this 150 MW project demonstrates the Group’s ability to execute complex RTC initiatives. Furthermore, it reinforces the company’s commitment to India’s renewable energy goals, including the government’s target of 500 GW by 2030.

In FY26, the Group already secured 450 MW of renewable projects from state-owned entities. These include a 300 MW solar-plus-storage project from SJVN and another 300 MW solar-plus-storage Letter of Award (LoA) from NHPC. Both projects form part of NHPC’s 1,200 MW ISTS-connected solar initiative with energy storage integration.

Jindal India Renewable Energy intends to implement a diverse mix of solar, wind, hybrid, and Firm & Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) projects. Consequently, the company strengthens its presence in India’s rapidly evolving power sector. Founded in 1952, B.C. Jindal Group expanded from steel pipe manufacturing into thermal and renewable energy, as well as packaging films. Today, the Group operates a 1,200 MW thermal power plant in Angul, Odisha, while simultaneously accelerating its renewable energy portfolio.

These initiatives highlight B.C. Jindal Group’s strategic focus on sustainability, technological innovation, and long-term growth in India’s energy transition.
