Kenyan start-up BasiGo secures a $1.5 million grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to deploy its electric buses in Rwanda. The funding, a departure from USAID’s usual focus, aims to support BasiGo’s initiative in advancing electromobility in the region.
BasiGo plans to deliver 200 electric vehicles to Rwanda by the end of 2024 as part of its partnership with Rwandan company AC Group. The fleet will be operated mainly by public transport entities. This includes Kigali Bus Service, Royal Express, and Volcano, with BasiGo providing recharging and maintenance services.
