Marble Bar, nicknamed “Australia’s hottest town,” now has a battery to store excess dollar energy. The city, which once recorded 100 consecutive days of over 37°Cis ideal for solar energy generation. The battery was built as part of the Western Australia state government’s Recovery Plan. The battery, supplied and installed by Western Australia-based Hybrid Systems Australia, is sited near the town’s centralised solar farm. Now, residents in the tow can connect their rooftop solar system of up to 3kW to the energy storage system. This could reduce electricity bills for residents by an average of AUD 1,275 annually.
Western Australia’s Energy Minister Bill Johnstone stated that the BESS systems increase solar capacity in regional areas and reduce up to 13,000 tons of emissions annually. He also added that BESS systems “will also support economic development, providing opportunities for local installers to supply solar systems to customers.”
