- BB Energy is signing partnerships with local companies to manufacture and distribute improved stoves in Rwanda.
- This equipment will contribute to access to clean cooking and the reduction of deforestation.
BB Energy, a London, UK-based company, has partnered with Rwanda’s Société Pétrole (SP) and Quality Engineering Company (QEC) to manufacture and distribute energy-efficient improved cookstoves to rural communities across the country with 200,000 families having access to clean cooking in Rwanda.
According to BB Energy, this initiative will replace Africa’s traditional three-stone cooking method responsible for several respiratory diseases. In addition to reducing carbon monoxide (CO) emissions, the improved stoves will help combat deforestation. “Most importantly, the efficiency of the new stoves will reduce the time spent by women and children collecting wood,” says BB Energy.
The project is being carried out under the Improved Cookstove program as a consequence of a contract that BB Energy and the Rwandan Ministry of Environment signed in 2021. The organization, which has over 470 employees worldwide, pledged to launch projects to assist climate action in Rwanda.
The Rwandan company QEC will follow a training program in addition to manufacturing and distributing the improved cookstoves, enabling the recipients to use their clean cooking kits more effectively. At least 100 employees will likely be created in Rwanda through the production and distribution of the equipment.
