- The government of Togo has obtained a promise of financing from the Abu Dhabi Export Office (ADEX).
- This is a $25 million loan for the expansion of the Blitta solar PV plant.
The Blitta solar power plant in Togo is about to be increased by 20MWp. Amea Power, a company, headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, provided the information. The solar power facility, which has been in operation since June 2021, has received $25 million in finance from the independent power producer (IPP) that owns it. The Abu Dhabi Export Office (ADEX), a financial entity of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, will provide the financing (ADFD).
The UAE banking institution and the Togolese Ministry of Economy and Finance have already signed the $25 million loan deal. According to the agreement, the solar photovoltaic plant will also have a 4 MWh storage system installed to continue generating electricity when the sun sets. Amea Power’s subsidiary Amea Technical Services will transport.
The solar park in the village of Blitta now has a 50 MWp capacity. In honour of the Emir of Abu Dhabi and the President of the United Arab Emirates, the power plant is called Mohamed Bin Zayed. The Compagnie Energie Electrique du Togo purchases the output (CEET). Amea predicts that the solar farm can provide for 158,333 Togolese households.
However, upon expansion, the facility should be able to supply enough energy to at least 222,000 Togolese homes. Amea Power obtained financing from the West African Development Bank (BOAD) and ADFD to pay for the first two phases of the Blitta solar PV plant. The third phase will be implemented, making Blitta the most extensive solar power facility in West Africa.
