Boralex Secures 380 MW of Battery Capacity in Ontario Tender

Two energy storage projects totaling 380 MW were approved by an Ontario tender, according to Canadian energy company Boralex Inc. These projects accounted for about half of the 780 MW of storage capacity granted.

The 80-MW Tilbury Battery Storage Project and the 300-MW Hagersville Battery Energy Storage Park from Boralex were chosen as part of the IESO’s Expedited Long-Term Request for Proposals. At the end of 2025, both four-hour battery storage installations are anticipated to be operational. Both are close to existing Hydro One infrastructure in the Municipality of Lakeshore and the town of Hagersville in Haldimand County, respectively. Boralex has partnered with the Six Nations of the Grand River to develop the Hagersville project and with the Walpole Island First Nation to develop the Tilbury scheme.

According to the firm, it is now finalizing the IESO contracts’ conditions. Seven storage projects in total were chosen. One of these is the 114 MW contracted York Battery Energy Storage System project by Capital Power. One additional substantial project, with a nameplate capacity of 265 MW and proposed by Portlands Energy Centre LP (Atura Power), is also included on the list.
