- bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) has successfully started gas production from the Cypre development, boosting gas supply.
- Cypre will contribute to bp’s global goal of producing 250,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed) from 10 major projects by 2027.
bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) has safely delivered first gas from its Cypre development. The project plays a key role in bp’s strategy to expand upstream operations and increase natural gas production. Cypre is one of 10 major global projects that bp expects to bring online between 2025 and 2027.
bpTT designed Cypre as a subsea development with seven wells connected to the Juniper platform. The company expects the project to produce 45,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed), including 250 million standard cubic feet of gas per day at peak production.
bpTT completed the first phase of the project in late 2024, drilling four wells. The company plans to begin the second phase, which includes three more wells, in the second half of 2025.
William Lin, bp’s Executive Vice President for Gas and Low Carbon Energy, said the company remains focused on executing projects efficiently and safely. He noted that Cypre is the second of 10 major projects bp plans to bring online by 2027.
“We are delivering major projects like Cypre to strengthen gas supply in Trinidad and Tobago and add value for bp,” Lin said.
bpTT President David Campbell highlighted the project’s importance in maximising production from the company’s shallow-water acreage. He said the development reinforces bpTT’s commitment to maintaining gas supply while representing a major investment in Trinidad and Tobago’s energy sector.
“Cypre helps us meet our gas supply commitments. We are proud to invest in the country’s energy future and will continue working with the government and other stakeholders,” Campbell said.
bp Expands Global Production
bp brought Cypre online as its second major project of 2025, following the second development phase of the Raven field in Egypt. The company expects these projects to contribute significantly to its global target of 250,000 boed peak production by 2027.
bpTT ensured Cypre aligned with the company’s capital expenditure plans and financial goals. By tying the development to existing infrastructure, bpTT reduced costs and improved efficiency.
With Cypre now in operation, bpTT continues to strengthen gas production, support domestic energy needs, and reinforce Trinidad and Tobago’s role as a key gas producer in the region.
