- Braya Renewable Fuels starts renewable diesel production at the Come-by-Chance refinery.
- Formerly capable of 135,000 bpd, the refinery now produces 18,000 bpd of renewable diesel.
Braya announced on Thursday that renewable diesel production starts at the Come-by-Chance refinery in Canada. The refinery once outputted 135,000 barrels per day ( BPD). Cresta Fund Management acquired it in November 2021.
Formerly dormant due to COVID-19, it’s now Braya—an initial capacity of 18,000 bpd of renewable diesel. Braya plans to expand and add sustainable aviation fuel and green hydrogen.
The benefits encompass a significant decrease in carbon emissions within crucial sectors. Chemically, renewable diesel is equivalent to its petroleum-based counterpart. The current infrastructure readily facilitates production, though operations at Come-by-Chance ceased following unsuccessful negotiations with Irving Oil.
Notably, North American refineries are making a pivotal shift towards renewable diesel. Illustrating this industry trend, Phillips 66’s Rodeo refinery in California is set to undergo conversion next month, marking a notable stride in the direction of renewable energy.
