Brazilian authorities have approved for 1,422.9MW wind farms to begin operations in the first half of the year. That is 83 per cent of the total capacity approved by regulator Aneel in the entire capacity in the time period.
According to Aneel, June alone saw the addition of 284.46MW of new wind power capacity, 70% of the total capacity added that month. In total, Brazil has connected 1,787.4 MW of new power capacity in the first half of 2021.
Wind now comprise 10.47 per cent of Brazil’s total installed capacity, while solar represents 1.89 per cent, according to Aneel. Large hydro (UHE), small hydro (PCH), and mini-hydro (CGH) represent 57.95, 3.12 and 0.46 per cents, respectively. Renewable energy contributes 75.01 per cent of Brazil’s total installed capacity of 176.1 GW Aneel noted.
