- Brazil has reached a cumulative solar capacity of 14GW.
- Distributed generation installations take the lead with 9.3GW.
According to the domestic solar power association, ABSOLAR, Brazil’s installed solar power generation capacity has hit 14GW. Of the various connections, distributed generation (DG) installations lead with 9.3GW of installed capacity, while large-scale plants (centralised solar) account for the remaining 4.7GW, a local media reported on Wednesday, citing data from ABSOLAR.
ABSOLAR’s data shows that in regards to the DG mix alone, solar power is currently used in 99.9 per cent of all the systems in the country. Since 2012, Brazilian solar projects have brought in BRL 74.6 billion (USD 14.6bn) investments and created around 420,000 local jobs.
Solar plants as a whole rank fifth in the Brazilian electricity mix, surpassing the installed capacity of thermal-based plants powered by oil and other fossils, the local media news outlets highlighted.
