- Brazil’s distributed renewables capacity crosses 6.5GW.
- The segment is still expected to reach 7GW this year.
According to data from Brazil’s electricity regulator Aneel, the country’s cumulative installed wind and solar distributed generation (DG) capacity has crossed 6.5GW. Solar is the largest contributor to capacity accounting for 6.4GW from 562,177 grid-connected systems. Minas Gerais has the largest DG capacity at 1.23GW, Sao Paulo with 833.8MW, and Rio Grande do Sul with 805.8MW are second and third, respectively.
424,675 systems of the total distributed generation systems installed are classified as residential units, while Commercial and rural installations have just 83,080 and 40,858 installations, respectively. Nevertheless, the Brazilian Association for Distributed Generation (ABGD) still estimates that the distributed segment would likely grow by over 50 per cent this year with increasing the total installed capacity to 7GW.
