- Plans to add a further 7.6GW in place.
Brazil is set to have an increase in its renewable energy generation capacity as the several renewable energy plants totalling a combined capacity of 464.57MW were given operational permission by the Country’s government. Of the 464.57MW, solar parks account for 100MW, and small hydropower takes up 18MW. However, wind farms take up the biggest share of the project, accounting for 346.75MW; this will mean that of the total installed energy capacity n the Country, 11.70% comes from wind, 2.57% from solar and over 50% from hydropower.
The Country is well on its way to attaining a 100% sustainable energy-based economy as currently, 83% of the energy production is from low-carbon emitting sources and sustainable ones. There are also plans for the addition of 7.6GW of clean energy to the Country’s total capacity in 2022.
