- 7 GW of offshore wind projects will be developed.
The Brazilian government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ocean Winds. The MoU will have both companies partner on the development of offshore wind projects with more than 7 GW capacity combined. Ocean winds intend to develop the 700 MW Marinha de Tramandai project off the North Coast, and the Ventos do Sul scheme off the South Coast with a potential of 6.5 GW.
According to estimates by the state government, the projects represent a combined investment of EUR 18.6 billion. Jose Partida Solano, the director of new business development at Ocean Winds, expressed that the two wind parks are expected to commence operations by 2030.
Asides from Marinha de Tramandai and Ventos do Sul; Ocean winds is developing three other projects in Brazil. The company has started seeing environmental permits from local regulation IBAMA for 15,2 GW in total. The government of Rio Grande do Sul also underscored the state’s potential for renewables, especially wind power, with a potential for 100 GW onshore and 114 GW offshore.
