Brazilian utility CGT Eletrosul has announced the commencement of construction works on a 302.4 MW Coxilha Negra wind energy project. The letrobras’ subsidiary estimates the project will require an investment of $411.4 million.
The corporation signed contracts with the firms in charge of the project’s infrastructure works after receiving approval from power sector regulator Aneel. According to CGT Eletrosul, the first turbines will start generating power in the first quarter of 2024.
Coxilha Negra, an 8,466-hectare wind farm near Santana do Livramento; the Rio Grande do Sul, will have 72 wind turbines from domestic electrical equipment producer WEG SA. The contract also covers logistics, assembly, commissioning, and operation and maintenance (O&M) services.
Along with Coxilha Negra, CGT Eletrosul is the owner of the 138-MW Cerro Chato wind farm in the SantAna do Livramento area. The company’s wind energy portfolio will total about 440 MW after the inclusion of the new asset.
