The U.K. is set to announce the biggest round of its renewable energy scheme, as it hopes to add extra offshore wind capacity to power about eight million homes. The Contracts-for-Difference (CfD) scheme will see renewable power generators bid for CfD contracts in a round of auctions with qualifying projects selling electricity at a guaranteed minimum price. The scheme is part of Britain’s plans to cut its emissions before hosting the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) this November.
According to the government, the latest round will provide £200 million ($277 million) to support offshore wind projects and £55 million for emerging renewable technologies.
