- Windpower pushes Britain’s green energy mix upwards
- Britain records lowest carbon intensity ever
Britain, a leader in the energy transition, has recently revealed its national grid has become greener. The month of February, which was quite windy, led to an increased power output from the wind power generation plants in the country and therefore contributed to the amount of clean energy in the country’s energy mix.
The Energy System Operator’s report of the National Grid revealed that wind power accounted for 39.7% of the total energy in February, a 12.7% increase from the January figures. Alternatively, the electricity production from gas fell from 37.4% in January to 21.8% in February.
As a result of the increase in wind power generation, the energy mix’s zero-carbon measurement rose from 47% to 60%. Britain’s ESO revealed a reduction in the grid’s average carbon intensity. The new carbon intensity figures, which are the lowest monthly average, now stand at 126gCO2/kWh.
