  • British Columbia launches five-year electrification plan
  • To ease the transition to renewable energy for homes and businesses

The Government of British Columbia (BC) and BC Hydro recently launched the BC Hydro’s new five-year electrification plan. The plan will ease the transition from fossil fuels to cleaner energy sources for consumers in the province. The five-year plan includes the investment of at least $250 million over the next five years to promote the transition from fuel usage in homes, businesses, vehicles and industries.

British Columbia Premier John Horgan, who spoke on the plan, said, “From heat waves to wildfires, we are already seeing the devastating effects of climate change. Here in BC, we have accomplished a lot with North America’s most progressive plan to reduce carbon pollution – but the scale of the crisis means we must act with even more urgency,”

“Working together with BC Hydro, we will help more people and businesses become less reliant on fossil fuels and use more affordable, made-in-B.C. hydroelectricity. As a clean-energy powerhouse, we have a huge opportunity to tackle the climate crisis while building a stronger and more resilient BC – for everyone.” Horgan added.

The Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, Bruce Ralston, said, “BC Hydro’s electrification plan will help us reduce emissions and keep rates lower, attracting new clean investment and innovation to BC and generating economic development and good, sustainable jobs.”

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) BC Hydro, Chris O’Riley, speaking on the ambitious plan, said, “With a legacy of conservation at our core, we take pride in helping our customers use resources wisely, find efficiencies and manage their costs,”

“….we have an incredible opportunity to also take advantage of our clean electricity to power homes, businesses, vehicles and industries. We’re here to help people and businesses make the switch from fossil fuels to being powered by water.” O’Riley added.
