- Nigeria to launch NASENI first-class transformer production plant
- The project is Nigeria’s first and Africa’s second transformer manufacturing project.
President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to conduct the groundbreaking and foundation-laying ceremony for developing a first-class transformer production plant in Nigeria. The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) asserts that the policy aligns with its industrialisation agenda, which calls for the federal government to diversify the economy.
NASENI, in collaboration with the China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC), is working on the project, which will be announced in September 2022. Professor Mohammed Sani Haruna, Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of NASENI, claims the project is the first of its kind in Nigeria and the second in Africa.
Visiting NASENI, the delegation’s leader and the chairman of Chinese Liaoning Huaye Group Development Ltd., Anshan Ma Liming, revealed that China and Nigeria had had a long-standing relationship that resulted in the signing of an agreement to establish the nation’s first transformer manufacturing facility.
The partnership, he added, also led to the training of sixty (60) NASENI engineers in the production line for transformers and the high voltage testing laboratory plant. The third element of the project, he continued, is establishing a solar cell manufacturing facility in Nigeria to promote renewable energy in the nation.
