- BW Energy discovered a 30-million-barrel oil field in the offshore Dussafu license, Gabon.
- The field’s proximity to existing infrastructure will ease development and boost production.
- This discovery strengthens Gabon’s oil sector and will attract new investments.
BW Energy has discovered a new oil field in the Bourdon prospect, located within the offshore Dussafu license off Gabon’s coast. The company estimates the field contains 30 million barrels of recoverable oil. This significant find will boost production and attract further investment in Gabon’s oil sector.
The company reached the discovery after drilling to a depth of 4,135 meters. Initial analysis revealed 34 meters of net oil reservoir within the Gamba Formation, with a total hydrocarbon column of 45 meters. This marks one of the largest finds in the area. BW Energy plans to conduct a second drilling phase to assess the field’s size and commercial potential.
The Bourdon field sits about 15 kilometres from the BW Adolo floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel and 7.5 kilometres from the MaBoMo production facility. This strategic location near existing infrastructure allows BW Energy to integrate the new field into ongoing operations, speeding up development.
BW Energy holds a 73.5% operating interest in the Dussafu license. Panoro Energy controls 17.5%, while Gabon Oil Company has the remaining 9%. The development of the Bourdon field will increase oil production and generate additional revenue for both BW Energy and Gabon.
Gabon has focused on maximising the value of its hydrocarbon resources, and this discovery supports the country’s efforts to attract new investments in its oil sector. Developing the field could provide further economic benefits to local communities.
BW Energy continues exploring the Bourdon prospect, with additional drilling planned. The company aims to fully understand the field’s potential, deliver value to shareholders, and contribute to Gabon’s local economy.
This new find strengthens BW Energy’s position as a key player in Gabon’s oil industry. The company has made other successful discoveries in the Dussafu license, and the Bourdon prospect adds to its growing portfolio.
Gabon continues to optimise its oil resources, and this discovery aligns with its broader energy goals. Integrating the Bourdon field into BW Energy’s operations will help increase oil output and support the local economy.
BW Energy will further refine the extent of the Bourdon field in the coming drilling phases, ensuring it reaches commercial viability. The development of this field will attract additional investment into Gabon’s oil sector and contribute to the country’s economic stability.
In summary, BW Energy’s latest discovery in Gabon’s offshore Dussafu license presents a promising opportunity for the company and the country. This find will boost production, drive new investment, and support Gabon’s energy sector, positioning it for continued growth.
