- CaISO issues Flex Alert
- Consumers are encouraged to cut down on consumption
- The raging Bootleg fire in Oregon threatens California’s grid supply
California’s Independent System Operator (CaISO) has issued a Flex Alert for Monday, July 12. In a statement issued by the Manager of California’s power grid, CaISO issued a statewide Flex Alert asking residents and businesses to cut back on power usage to prevent strain on the system. The Flex Alert asks residents and businesses to cut consumption between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Monday.
“With electric transmission lines from Oregon still unreliable due to the explosive Bootleg Fire and continued high temperatures across the West resulting in increased demand for electricity, the California Independent System Operator (ISO) issued a statewide Flex Alert for Monday, July 12 to help stabilize the state’s electric grid and deal with uncertainty created by the extraordinary conditions”, the statement read.
In addition to the Flex Alert, California’s grid supply risks a disruption due to Oregon’s raging Bootleg fires. As a result, consumers are advised to set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, avoid using major appliances, like dishwashers and clothes washers and dryers and turn off unnecessary lights. In addition, consumers are also encouraged to use fans for cooling and unplug unused electrical items.
