- The governor unveiled a fresh set of initiatives to assist California in reaching its 2030 climate.
As part of a bold action plan intended to hasten the energy transition, California Governor Gavin Newsom is urging the state to expand its offshore wind objective to at least 20 GW by 2045.
The governor unveiled a fresh set of initiatives to assist California in reaching its 2030 climate targets and its 2045 carbon neutrality target. He also requests that the California Air Resources Board (CARB), a state regulatory body, establish policies to lessen the severity of climate change in a letter to CARB.
Newsom recommends a ramp-up of capacity for offshore wind in particular such that at least 20 GW of offshore turbines are deployed in 2045. Up to 15 GW of installed capacity is the current goal for 2045 and 2050. In addition, the governor claims that the California Energy Commission must create a new objective as one of the steps to combat climate change.
The plan calls for measures to improve renewable fuels, climate-friendly houses, carbon removal, methane leak prevention, and deploying offshore wind.
