Canada to Invest $964 Million in Clean Energy Projects

The Government of Canada has announced that it will invest in clean energy and grid upgrades to make clean energy affordable and accessible to communities. The Honourable Seamus O’Regan Jr., Minister of Natural Resources, on June 2, launched a $964-million program to support smart renewable energy and grid modernization projects.

The Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program (SREPs) aims to build Canada’s low-emissions energy future and a clean energy-centric economy. The Canadian government hopes that these investments will help the country to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

Through SREPs and other programmes, the government will work with provinces and territories, utilities, Indigenous partners and other stakeholders to develop and deliver clean energy projects. This programme will complement Canada’s strengthened climate plan, ‘A Healthy Environment and a Healthy Economy.’
