- Cardiff residents raise concerns over electromagnetic fields
- Western Power Distribution plans to build a substation near homes in Cardiff
Residents of Cardiff have raised concerns about the plans of Western Power Distribution to build an electricity power station near their homes. The residents are concerned about electromagnetic fields emitted from substations and the risks of cancer. Western Power Distribution has applied for permission to build substations across some parts of Cardiff. Residents have objected to the plans asking the Cardiff council to reject the plans for the substation.
Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are emitted where electricity is used. The Energy Networks Association say small electricity substations produce very small amounts of EMFs. Some scientists claim there could be a possible link between childhood leukaemia and living very close to high voltage overhead power lines.
