- The company plans to begin commercial operations in 2023.
- The hydrogen produced will replace natural gas in the company’s power plant.
The British power company Carlton Power is seeking approval to build a 10MW green hydrogen production facility near Manchester. The company plans to scale the facility to 200MW. The company submitted the planning application for the project with the Trafford Council last week. Carlton Power plans to deploy a 10MW system in Carrington to produce about four tonnes of hydrogen daily within an existing power station it owns in the area. The plan is to power the facility with clean energy.
Provided the plan is approved within the company’s expected timeframe, Carlton expects construction to commence in early 2022, with commercial operations slated for 2023. Trafford’s application also includes a plan to raise the facility’s capacity to 200MW to produce 50 tonnes of hydrogen daily. The company plans to utilise the hydrogen produced to replace natural gas within the Carlton Power complex.
