CBN Disburses ₦47.83 Billion for the NMMP Scheme

  •  CBN disburses funds to the power sector for meter procurement and installation.
  • The funds will lead to the provision of over 800,000 electricity meters.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced that it has allocated ₦47.83 billion to procure and install 856,026 electricity meters across the country. The funds are administered under the National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP) phase zero scheme.

This announcement was contained in a communique issued by the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, following the MPC meeting held earlier in the week. Emefiele in the communique stated, “To further support the development of enabling infrastructure in the gas industry, the bank released additional ₦3 billion to augment existing infrastructure, bringing the cumulative disbursements under the intervention facility for National Gas Expansion Programme to ₦42. 2 billion for six projects.”

The NMMP is a metering initiative introduced by the Federal Government to foster the electricity metering of its citizens by providing loan facilities to the electricity distribution companies (DisCos) for the procurement of meters for its customers; and on the part of local meter manufacturers, for the production and assembling of meters.
