- CCE Holding launched its largest European solar plant, the 40 MWp Horia 1, powering 17,000 homes in Romania’s Arad region.
- The project, funded with €3 million under the EU’s National Resilience and Renewal Program (PNRR), includes 75,249 photovoltaic modules.
- CCE Holding plans to expand its solar capacity in Romania, aiming to produce 500,000 MWh annually by 2025.
CCE Holding has launched its largest solar power plant in Europe, the Horia 1 photovoltaic facility. The 40 MWp plant in the Arad region of Romania directly supplies electricity to 17,000 households. Officials from the Romanian Ministry of Energy attended the inauguration event.
The Horia 1 solar farm covers 40 hectares and features 75,249 photovoltaic modules. SolarPro, an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm, completed the project within a year, adhering to the set timeline. The facility joins the European Union’s National Resilience and Renewal Program (PNRR), which promotes renewable energy across EU member states.
The PNRR funded the project with nearly €3 million. CCE Holding identified Romania as a key market due to the country’s favourable policies and significant solar potential. CCE Romania, the company’s local subsidiary, has developed expertise in managing solar projects over the past two years.
“We’ve built a strong portfolio of solar projects in just two years,” said Alexandru Matei Fatu, General Manager of CCE Romania. “Our goal is to scale production and play a bigger role in Romania’s energy transition.”
CCE Holding’s broader strategy for Romania focuses on expanding renewable energy output. The company plans to build more solar infrastructure to generate 500,000 megawatt-hours of green electricity annually, covering the Arad region’s energy needs.
The company has secured construction permits and grid connection commitments for additional projects. CCE Holding will begin new developments in 2025, further boosting Romania’s sustainability goals.
By launching the Horia 1 project, CCE Holding underscores Romania’s growing role in Europe’s renewable energy transition. CCE Holding continues to drive clean energy efforts and strengthen its presence in Romania’s solar market, benefiting from the country’s supportive policies.
CCE Holding’s success with the Horia 1 plant highlights the importance of partnerships between governments and the private sector in achieving climate goals. The company’s investments align with the EU’s mission for a sustainable future, and Romania’s solar potential provides fertile ground for these efforts.
CCE Holding remains committed to expanding solar developments in Romania, reinforcing its position in the country’s renewable energy sector. As it moves forward with its plans, CCE Holding expects to significantly impact Romania’s clean energy transition and contribute to Europe’s broader green energy goals.
