- CEEC aims to lead the global energy transition with key renewable energy, hydrogen, and storage projects, including the world’s largest green hydrogen-ammonia-methanol project.
- With over $27 billion in investments, CEEC plans to expand renewable energy projects and integrate AI into energy systems.
China Energy Engineering Corp Ltd (CEEC) wants to play a bigger role in global energy transition and infrastructure development. Its chairman, Song Hailiang, shared this plan at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference in Hainan.
CEEC is advancing renewable energy, hydrogen, and storage solutions. Its green hydrogen projects will help decarbonize industrial sectors. In September, CEEC will launch the world’s largest integrated green hydrogen-ammonia-methanol project in Songyuan, Jilin province.
This project will combine green hydrogen production with green ammonia and methanol synthesis. It will create a sustainable system for producing chemicals and fuels with minimal environmental impact.
Song said that the growth of renewable energy presents a global challenge. He added that CEEC will focus on renewable energy supply, consumption, infrastructure planning, technology, and policy mechanisms.
The company has secured investment agreements worth over 110 billion yuan ($15.3 billion) in China and $11.8 billion abroad. The projects span China, Egypt, Morocco, and Central Asia.
CEEC’s domestic green hydrogen and ammonia aviation oil capacity has exceeded 1.35 million metric tons, and its overseas production capacity has reached 2.6 million tons.
The company is also integrating AI with energy systems. Song emphasized that renewable energy and storage solutions will support AI-driven industries. He noted that China’s data centres and 5G base stations would consume 250 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2024, nearly triple the annual output of the Three Gorges Dam.
CEEC is developing digital energy infrastructure. Its east-data-west-computing project will improve coordination between data centres and power grids.
The company plans to accelerate its international operations. It will expand renewable energy projects and infrastructure investments in Belt and Road Initiative markets. CEEC operates in over 140 countries and regions. Nearly half of its total agreements are for overseas renewable energy projects.
Song said CEEC remains committed to high-quality energy cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. It aims for long-term partnerships and sustainable infrastructure projects. The company will bring Chinese technology, equipment, and expertise to global markets.
