- CEEC signs a contract with Biovea Energie to construct a biomass plant.
- The facility will have a total of 46MW.
Biovea Energie revealed that it had signed a deal with China Energy Engineering Corp (CEEC) to deliver the future power plant by 2024. Construction works will commence before the end of 2022 at the Ayebo biomass project in the Aboisso region of the Ivory Coast.
A total of 46 MW will be available from the facility’s two 23 MW units. 480,000 tonnes of oil palm waste will be disposed of to generate electricity. From the 12,000 farmers in Ayébo, this trash will be collected over 25 years.
The French Development Agency (AFD) subsidiary Proparco, which is in charge of funding the private sector, provided a concessional loan of 135 million in June 2022, which led to the decision to work with the Chinese company CEEC. The Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG) firm Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF) is lending close to 30 million euros.
Additionally, PIDG has agreed to give Proparco an investment grant of €5 million and €8 million, respectively. The Dutch Development Finance Company (FMO) also supports the electrification project.
