- Seeks approval to purchase 130 MW solar park project.
- The solar farm is expected to commence operations by 2025.
CenterPoint Energy Inc, a Texas-based investor-owned electric and gas utility, is seeking approval from the Indiana regulators to acquire a 130-MW solar park project from Chicago-based Invenergy LLC.
A request has been submitted by CentrePoint’s Indiana-based electric and natural gas business to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC), the parent company said on Friday.
A deal has been completed between CentrePoint Energy Indiana South and Invernergy, calling for CentrePoint Energy to take ownership of the Pike County photovoltaic (PV) farm when it becomes operational. The project’s construction is planned to begin upon a decision by IURC, which is expected to be given in early 2023. The solar farm is expected to commence operations by 2025. The installation will be handled by Invernegy.
The proposed acquisition, the value of which was not disclosed, is planned to support CenetrPoint’s long-term electric generation transition plan. The utility said it was previously cleared to build a 200-MW solar park in Indiana and sign power purchase agreements (PPAs) to procure electricity from 400 MW of capacity in the state’s Warrick, Vermillion and Knox Counties.
CenterPoint Energy serves 150,000 customers in southwest Indiana.
