As it seeks to turn itself into a sustainable mobility company, the Spanish oil refiner Cepsa announced on Thursday that it has 2.1 GW of solar PV projects under construction in Spain, or about one third of the renewable energy capacity it aims to deploy by 2030.
There are 17 projects in the portfolio spread over four different areas of Spain, with Cepsa having successfully obtained a favorable environmental impact statement for nine of them. According to the corporation, the projects would require an investment of $1.59 billion and give a chance to add up to 5,000 jobs while construction is at its busiest.
It has been almost a year since Cepsa announced its 2030 Positive Motion strategy, setting investment, green energy, and alternative fuels targets. These include installing 7 GW of wind and solar farms to power its industrial processes, produce green hydrogen and support e-mobility.
