Cero Generation, a Macquarie Green Investment Group (GIG) portfolio business, has reached financial close on a 70MW agrivoltaic solar project in Italy, backed by two power purchase agreements (PPAs).
The Pontinia project is scheduled to start construction this month and finish in the first quarter of 2023. It will be deployed in the Lazio region’s Latina Province.
The solar project will use single-axis trackers, bifacial modules, and string inverters. According to the developer, crops will cover 65 per cent of the project site, making Pontinia one of the country’s first large-scale agrivoltaic solar facilities. It is also one of Italy’s first corporate PPA project financings, with two long-term off-take contracts.
