Chad Set to Install 2MWp Solar PV Plant in Doba

  • The solar power plant will have a capacity of 2MW and will complement the energy produced by the thermal plant in the areas.
  • Chad is also constructing a slate of solar projects (both small and large capacity) across the country to help reduce the energy deficit.

The government of Chad is set to construct a solar power plant in the town of Doba. The Doba solar plant will have a capacity of 2MW and will complement the energy supplied by the national utility owned and operated thermal power plant in the town. Chad’s government recently launched a series of projects aimed at improving access to electricity for the country’s residents.

Small solar power plants are already being constructed in Am Timan (5 MWp) and Mongo (5 MWc) towns. ZIZ  Energie is the EPC contractor for the project. Independent power producers (IPPs) are also constructing larger solar power plants in Gaoui (100 MWp), N’Djamena (200 MWp) and Djermaya (32 MWp).

Currently, Chad has a distribution capacity of 125MW according to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). These new power plants when comp;eted will greatly increase electricity access for the over 15 million residents of the country.
