- The plant is expected to produce 52 tonnes of green hydrogen every year
- 400 kg of hydrogen will be stored on the plant’s site
Invenergy LLC, a Chicago-based sustainable energy solutions developer, has revealed its plans to construct its first green hydrogen production facility, which will be powered with electricity from a solar park adjacent to the facility.
The hydrogen plant will be installed in the Nelson Township in the Lee County of Illinois. It is expected to produce 52 tonnes of green hydrogen every year. The project is expected to have commenced operations by the end of 2022 and is ready to deliver hydrogen to the Nelson Energy Center of Invernergy. The Nelson Energy Center is a natural-gas-fired combined cycle power plant in Lee County. Some of the plant’s hydrogen output will be shipped and used offsite.
400 kg of hydrogen will be stored on the plant’s site.
The project will use a PEM electrolyser from Ohmium International Inc, its US manufacturer. Invernergy expects to commence construction works in the coming months, the company said.
Invenergy and its affiliated companies have developed over 30 GW of wind, solar, transmission infrastructure, energy storage and natural gas projects. The portfolio includes capacity in operation and construction, as well as contracted projects.
