- Wind farms will yield 1700 MWh of electricity annually
- Project to become fully operational by 2023
Envision Group, a Chinese Greentech company, is set to deploy a 600MW Monsoon wind project in Laos. The project is set to become the largest wind energy project in the ASEAN region, and it is expected to supply electrical power to Vietnam.
In a Letter of Intent for the supply of turbines for the project, in partnership with its developer- Impact Energy Asia Development Limited (IEAD), Envision Group revealed that a joint venture had been established with Impact Wind Investment Ltd and renewable energy firm BCPG Public Co Ltd.
With project construction expected to begin this year, the plant is expected to become fully operational by 2023. The Sekong and Attapeu provinces in Southern Laos will host the projects, with 133 units of turbines, each having a capacity of 4.53MW of power. Fully operational, the wind farms are expected to have an output of 1,700MWh of electricity every year. The Monsoon wind farm will transmit its power output through a dedicated 500kV transmission line from Laos to Central Vietnam. The plant will run through a 25-year power purchase agreement with Vietnam Electricity.
