On May 27, 2025, CHN Energy Guohua Energy Investment Co Ltd launched green hydrogen deliveries from Hebei Province to Beijing, marking a significant milestone in China’s clean energy transition. The hydrogen will fuel the capital’s expanding fleet of hydrogen-powered buses via Sinopec’s growing network of hydrogen refuelling stations.
The hydrogen is produced using alkaline water electrolysis, a clean process that splits water using electricity from renewable sources such as wind and solar. This technology positions CHN Energy at the forefront of green hydrogen production, with a direct application in public transport.
Furthermore, the project aligns with China’s Clean Air Action Plan, which aims to reduce urban air pollution by phasing out diesel-powered buses and replacing them with cleaner alternatives.
CHN Energy is leveraging its renewable energy capacity to drive this shift as a state-owned China Energy Investment Corporation subsidiary. The partnership with Sinopec, which already operates over 100 hydrogen stations nationwide, ensures the necessary infrastructure to support the transition.
This initiative supports China’s broader climate targets, peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. It also serves as a proof of concept for cross-regional hydrogen logistics, bolstering confidence in future infrastructure projects like the planned national hydrogen pipeline network, which is expected by 2030.
