Citicore Launches First Baseload Solar Park in Phillippine

  • Citicore Renewable Energy Corp (CREC) has launched the first solar baseload power plant, marking a significant step in the Philippines’ clean energy transition.
  • The project will cut 265,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually as Citicore targets 5 GW of renewables by 2030.

Citicore Renewable Energy Corp (CREC) has launched the Philippines’ first solar baseload power plant, marking a significant step in the country’s clean energy transition. The 197-MWp Citicore Solar (CS) Batangas 1 facility in Tuy, Batangas, combines a solar farm with a 320-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to deliver round-the-clock renewable power.

Meanwhile, the plant will supply electricity to about 158,000 homes and cut an estimated 265,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. By storing daytime solar output for evening and peak demand use, the project addresses one of the biggest challenges in renewable energy: reliability.

Furthermore, at the official opening, attended by Department of Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, CREC President and CEO Oliver Tan said the company is ready to scale. “With 1.5 GWh of BESS already in place, we can replicate this breakthrough starting here in Batangas,” he said.

In addition, CREC is targeting 5 GW of installed renewable capacity by 2030 and expects to cross the 1 GW mark by year-end. 11 solar parks and 760 MWh of storage are driving the expansion.
