Colombia Reaches Another High in Clean Electricity Generation

  • 86.51% of electricity was generated from clean and renewable sources in May.

According to the national grid operator XM Compania de Expertos en Mercados, Colombia generated 86.51% of its electricity from clean and renewable energy sources in May. Compared to the 86.27% level from April, hydropower reservoirs boosted the May generation because of the rainy season.

The total generation from all power plants in Colombia was 6,554.31 GWh in May, averaging 211.43 GWh per day. This is an increase of about 1.67% in comparison to April’s. Renewables, including large hydro, accounted for 182.91 GWh per day, increasing the production output by 1.95% month-on-month.
