Colombia’s Clean Energy Generation Peaked at 86.27%

  • Colombia has increased the share of its green electricity generation capacity.

According to the national grid operator, XM Compania de Expertos en Mercados, Colombia’s share of green energy has increased. The operator noted that 86.27% of the electricity consumed in April came from clean and renewable energy sources.

This comes slightly higher than the 85.1% share recorded in March this year, stemming from a combination of higher output from hydropower generation due to the influx of water in the rainy season. According to XM’s report, another contributing factor is the reduction in power generation as a result of the Holy Week celebration.

In April, the total amount of electricity generated in Colombia was 6,238.8 GWh, a 0.33% reduction monthly. Large hydro contributed 5,382.3 GWh of this, making an average of 179.41 GWh per day. This means an increase of 1.05% in comparison with March.
