Construction Begins at Southeast Asia’s Largest Wind Farm

An official announcement said that a groundbreaking ceremony was held last week with participation from government representatives.

The wind park will be erected in the provinces of Sekong and Attapeu together with a special 500-kV transmission line. Vietnam Electricity (EVN) will acquire the electricity from the wind park under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The project is referred to as the first cross-border wind power plant in Southeast Asia and will be the first wind farm in Laos. Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina) will install the capacity.

The plan’s creator is Impact Energy Asia Development Ltd, a Thai business that owns Monsoon Wind Power Co Ltd in Lao.A financial consortium last month provided $692 million in loans for the project, including the Asian Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and others.
