- The largest floating PV plant in SE Asia commences construction.
- The PV plant is set to commence operations in Q4 2022.
Masdar and PT PJBI’s joint venture PT. Pembangkitan Jawa Bali Masdar Solar Energi (PMSE) has reached a financial close on Indonesia’s 145MW floating solar photovoltaic (PV) project. PMSE is developing the Cirata Floating Photovoltaic Power Plant project on the Cirata reservoir in the West Java Province.
The construction of the PV plant has commenced, with commercial operations slated to begin in Q4 2022. The project will be Indonesia’s first utility-scale floating solar power plant and the largest in Southeast Asia.
Masdar chief executive Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi stated that “the designation of this project as a National Strategic Project (PSN) has been invaluable in enabling us to make such significant progress and demonstrates that the Government recognizes the economic and social benefits the Cirata project will bring to the local community and all of Indonesia.”
Indonesia has set its sights on reaching 23 per cent clean energy in its energy mix by 2025 and at least 48 per cent by 2030. The floating solar power plant is financed by the Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp, Societe Generale and Standard Chartered Bank.
