- Covenant University and EV Planet Global Limited plan to establish an EV research and training centre on campus.
- The collaboration includes faculty training in China and dual certification for students with global industry recognition.
Covenant University is set to become a hub for electric vehicle (EV) technology in Nigeria following a strategic partnership with EV Planet Global Limited. The high-profile meeting, held in the Vice Chancellor’s conference room, focused on developing a long-term collaboration to advance EV education and research.
Dr. Bunmi Felix Oyebamidele, Managing Director of EV Planet Global Limited, led the delegation and outlined the company’s vision. He emphasised Covenant University’s reputation as a top-ranking institution, making it an ideal partner for the initiative. The partnership aims to train mechanical engineering faculty in China and integrate EV technology courses into the university’s curriculum.
The collaboration will also establish an EV research and training centre on campus. This facility will provide students with hands-on experience in electric vehicle production, preparing them for careers in the fast-growing industry. The training program will cover EV battery systems, electric motors, charging infrastructure, diagnostics, and safety protocols.
Dr. Oyebamidele highlighted that students will benefit from a blend of theoretical and practical training. The program includes interactive lectures, multimedia presentations, and group discussions. Hands-on sessions will teach students to diagnose electrical faults, perform maintenance, and troubleshoot EV systems using advanced tools.
A key advantage of the partnership is the dual certification offered by BZB International Education Technology LTD and EV Planet LTD. This certification will grant students globally recognised credentials, enhancing their employability in the evolving EV sector.
Covenant University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Anake, appreciated the initiative. He acknowledged that electric and autonomous vehicles represent the future and that the partnership would significantly benefit students and faculty. He assured the delegation that further discussions would take place to explore the collaboration in greater detail.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Lanre Amodu emphasised the importance of maintenance training in successfully adopting EV technology. The Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Igban, also commended the initiative, highlighting its potential for capacity building and infrastructure development on campus.
Key university officials attended the meeting, including Pastor Samuel Audu, the Director of Financial Services, and Mrs. Shola Coker, the dean of student affairs. With this collaboration, Covenant University is positioning itself at the forefront of Nigeria’s transition to sustainable transportation and green energy solutions.
