DSME is working on developing an ESS for ships.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) has stated that it is working with a local company and research institutes to develop an energy storage system (ESS) for ships. The group plans to develop a lithium battery-based ESS that can be mounted on large-scale ships.
As the International Maritime Organization (IMO) toughens the environmental regulations for ships, there is an increased need for alternative energy sources such as ESS and fuel cells.
The development group included 13 participants, including the DSME, local armoured vehicle producer Hanwha Defense and the Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering. The project was initiated by the Korean Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP), a unit under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
DSME had earlier worked with Hanwha Defense to develop an ESS for mid-sized submarines.
