Billionaire businessman and Chairman of Geregu Power Plc, Femi Otedola, praised Aliko Dangote’s ambition to raise the refinery’s capacity from 650,000 to 1.4 million barrels daily. According to him, this move represents a transformative investment designed to empower future generations of Nigerians and Africans.
Otedola described the project as a monumental legacy that goes beyond personal achievement. He believes the Dangote Refinery expansion will reshape Africa’s industrial base, encourage energy independence, and support regional prosperity.
In a post on his official X handle, Otedola commended Dangote’s dedication to national industrial growth. He explained that the refinery will transform Nigeria’s energy landscape and enhance regional trade and investment. Additionally, he noted that polypropylene output will rise from 900,000 to 2.4 million metric tonnes annually, alongside new capacities for linear alkylbenzene and base oils.
Furthermore, Otedola expressed optimism that ordinary Nigerians will soon share ownership of the refinery. He stressed that this inclusive approach ensures that every citizen benefits from the nation’s industrial transformation.
Dangote unveiled the expansion plans during a world press conference in Lagos. He stated that increasing regional demand for cleaner fuels and favourable government policies inspired the decision. Consequently, the expansion aims to consolidate Nigeria’s leadership as Africa’s refining hub while reducing the continent’s reliance on imported products.
Otedola also appreciated President Bola Tinubu’s continued support of private-sector growth through the Renewed Hope agenda. He believes effective collaboration between government and industry remains crucial to achieving national energy security and economic stability.
Located in the Lekki Free Zone, Lagos, the Dangote Refinery is already the world’s largest single-train facility. Once fully operational, it will satisfy domestic fuel demand and export refined products across Africa.
