Denmark has pledged to increase investment and support Nigeria in developing its renewable energy sector. The Ambassador of Denmark to Nigeria, Mr. Sune Krogstrup, made this known during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, affirming Denmark’s readiness to assist Nigeria in its transition towards green energy.

Ambassador Krogstrup stressed Denmark’s willingness to aid Nigeria in its quest for a more sustainable future, particularly in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. He highlighted Denmark’s prominent role in the global renewable energy sector, expertise in green technology and dedication to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. According to him, attracting investment and technology is essential to achieve Nigeria’s ambitious emissions reduction targets.

He said, “Denmark has much to offer Nigeria regarding green technology and know-how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We are very ambitious regarding the green transition; the Danish ambition is to ensure climate neutrality by 2050. Nigeria has also committed itself to ambitious targets for reducing its emissions, but much needs to be done to bring in investments and technology.”

Denmark’s Ambassador stressed the need for Nigeria to take bold steps and demonstrate political determination in implementing its Energy Transition Plan (ETP), launched by former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in August 2022, to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, eliminate energy poverty, and stimulate economic growth. He added the significance of a sustainable transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy to combat climate change and promote cleaner energy sources.
