- DESRI and SMUD makes a long term agreement on Solar-battery sales

Under a combined power purchase agreement, DE Shaw Renewable Investments LLC (DESRI) will sell power from 200MW of solar and 400MWh of battery storage capacity (PPA).
DESRI announced that a long-term agreement had been reached with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). The contractual electricity volume will come from a solar-battery complex being constructed on the east side of Sacramento County in northern California.
The project’s name has not been revealed, but it is planned to begin commercial operations in 2024. Approximately 400 jobs will be created during the building period. Bona Terra Energy LLC affiliates aided DESRI as co-developers of the plan. According to the release, the project is the largest combined solar and battery storage generation complex announced to date in northern California under a PPA contract.
“We committed to employing every tool in the toolbox,” said Frankie McDermott, SMUD’s chief operating officer. “Innovative projects like this that combine solar and battery storage will enable us to offer the region clean and reliable power as we transition away from natural gas supplies.”
